PEORIA ~ Betty Jean (Young) LeMaster, 71, of Peoria, passed away at 12:08 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Born February 17, 1946 in Pleasant Mound to Joseph Arthur and Florence Hazel (Smith) Young, she married Robert Eugene LeMaster on July 2, 1971 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Melissa (Richard) Humphrey of Pekin; one son, Patrick (Brent) LeMaster of Chicago; one grandson, Ryan LeMaster of Chicago; two brothers, Douglas (Sheila) Young of Bartonville and Donald Young of Clayton; four sisters, Velma (Lee) Turner of East Peoria, Bonnie Coons of Angleton, Texas, Virginia Newburn of Peoria Heights, and Katherine “Pat” (Richard) Wissler of Eureka; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her pets (who were like her children), Daisy and Minou “Mr. Cat”.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Bessie Baumberger, Sarah Sims, Georgia Crisp, and Mary Dodds; and three brothers, Ernest Young, Charles Young, and David Young.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Peoria.
A homemaker, Betty Jean loved her God, family and her pets. Her greatest joy was being a grandma to Ryan. She felt it was God’s calling to take care of her family and friends. Betty Jean enjoyed making beautiful cards, filled with love that she sent to her family, friends, and church family. She will be remembered as a great wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend.
Her funeral will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Steve Van Fossen will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
