GLASFORD ~ Edward Phillip “Eddie” Bohlander, 62, of Glasford, passed away unexpectedly at 6:21 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at his home.

Born October 31, 1954 in Peoria to Donald Edward and Beverly Joan (Bischoff) Bohlander, he married Kathy Lynn (Tullis) Myers on November 1, 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She survives.

Also surviving are five daughters, Amanda “Mandy’ (Cameron Brewer) Bohlander of Dunlap, Stephanie “Stevie” (Jeffery) Becker of Mapleton, Tori (Shaun) Bohlander Johnson of Bartonville, Kimberly (Mark) Leman of Peoria, and Nicole (Kilby) Rabe of Pekin; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Beverly Bohlander Russell of Peoria; three sisters, Debbie (Terry) Parker of Glasford, Peggy Rogers of King George, Virginia, and Lori Fleming of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; and several nieces and nephews who meant the world to him.

His father preceded him in death.

He was a 1972 graduate of Illini Bluffs High School in Glasford and was a member of the Track and Wrestling Teams.  He invented the “Bohlander Roll” wrestling move.

At the age of 15 years old, Eddie began working at Robertson’s Used Auto Parts in Mapleton, retiring December 1, 2016 after 46 years of service.  He also operated Bohlander’s Garage in Glasford since 1985.  He was a mechanical genius and was always helping others with their car repairs or giving advice.

Eddie raced for many years throughout Illinois including Spoon River Speedway and Peoria Speedway.  He won many season points championships, none more important than the 1990 modified points championship at Peoria Speedway.  Eddie won the modified division while his father, Don, won the late model division championship.

Eddie had a love for gardening, flowers, chasing storms, the cosmos, traveling with family to Gulf Shores, and going to the cabin “The Hideaway” at Matanzas Lake which was his happy place.  He was known to get in the car and just drive.  Most of all Eddie’s family was his greatest love, especially his grandchildren.  He was an avid Chicago sports fan, Go Cubs Go!  He was a giving person even after his death with being an organ donor with Gift of Hope.

His visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Glasford United Methodist Church, where a memorial service will follow at 7 p.m.  There will be a celebration of life gathering following the memorial service at White Tails Fire Pit and Grill in Glasford.
