Doris C. Mitzelfelt

Doris Cecelia Mitzelfelt, age 101, of Apopka, Florida, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at her residence. She was formerly of East Peoria and Pekin.
Born August 12, 1916 in Forest City to Roscoe Russell and Metha Eliza (Ehlers) Pulling, she married Adolph E. Mitzelfelt on May 14, 1933. He died February 1, 1981. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Christie Mitzelfelt and two brothers, Robert Harold Pulling and Clyde Russell Pulling.
Surviving are five children, Donald E. (Janet) Mitzelfelt, M.D., Kenneth D. (Jacqueline) Mitzelfelt, both of Pekin, Carolyn (Walter Black, M.D.) of Apopka, Florida, James D. (Betty) Kettering, PhD. of Beaumont, California and Carolyn Sue “Susie” Vance of Mt. Dora, Florida; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She worked as office manager for Walter Black, M.D. from 1981 to 1996. Doris also worked as the office manager for a Peoria/Pekin Radiology group for many years and for Kimberling City Medical Group prior to Dr. Black. She worked for Hiram Walker during wartime.
Her biggest passion was caring for and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and in her later years of marriage was a faithful caregiver for her husband, Adolph.
Doris was a 75-year member of the Seventh-day Adventists Church.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Jay E. Coon will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fon du Lac Cemetery in East Peoria.
