Larry W. Semonski
1/26/1946 - 1/9/2018
PEKIN ~ Larry William Semonski, 71 of Pekin, passed away at 6:39 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Unity Point Health-Pekin.
He was born January 26, 1946 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Louis and Rita (Schoenherr) Semonski. His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Rick (Lisa) Semonski of East Peoria; one daughter, Billie Jean Heinz-Otte of Peoria; Marcella and Faye, who he took guardianship at ages 12 and 5; six grandchildren, Lindsey, Matthew, Samantha, Kaylin, Taylor and Haylee; one great-grandson, Connor; one sister, Barbara Bryant of Pekin; two brothers, Robert (Sandy) Semonski of East Peoria, Donald (Eunice) Semonski of Athens, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
Larry had worked for Caterpillar, Inc., retiring as a machinist after 33 years. While at Caterpillar, he was also a Safety Chairman for the United Auto Workers Local #974.
He had been a member of Frank N. Nicol Lodge #1170, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Creve Coeur. He was also one of the founders of the North Youth Athletic Association in Peoria in the 1970’s.
Larry loved riding his Harley-Davidson, he was an avid hunter, and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a tinkerer, had many friends and was well loved by all that knew him. He will also be greatly missed by his Boston Terrier, Joey, who will live with cousin Debbie in Texas as a Dallas Cowboy.
You will be missed by all who knew you. As in life we know you will continue to love and care for all our loved ones of the past. You were the master tinkerer, a fixer of things and we know there will be something you can get your hands on in heaven to "fix" as only you know how. We will all carry on with the thought of "how would Larry do it" and what we would think of as a crazy idea would be the best.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
