Ernest Dale Claton

PEKIN ~ Ernest Dale Claton, 82, of Pekin, passed away at 9:12 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born July 24, 1935 in Spring Lake Township in Tazewell County to L. Palmer and Edna L. (Green) Claton, he married Linda L. Brashears on July 1, 1974 in Havana. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Dale (Lisa) Claton of Springfield; five grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Bonnette, Monica (Alex Thomas) Hamby, Michael (Jamie) Hamby, Kelsey Pritchard and Rylee Claton; six great-grandchildren, Keagan, Dylan, Madalyn, Alexandra, Charleigh and Harper; one brother, Everett (Mary Jane) Claton of Indiana and two sisters, Janice (Larry) Shehorn and Carol (Jim) Evans, both of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Stephen Claton; one daughter, Deborah Claton and one sister, Marilyn Smith.
Dale was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
He last worked at Mason City Area Nursing Home as head of maintenance. Prior to that, he worked out of the Carpenters Local 644 in Pekin and also as a custodian at Midwest Central High School in Manito.
A true servant of his Lord, Dale was very instrumental in the building and formation of Grace Baptist Church in Havana in the 1970’s. Still today, the church continues to flourish. He also held weekly bible studies at Court Place in Pekin for many years.
Dale never meet a stranger and would jump at the opportunity to witness to strangers, including doctors and nurses while he was in the hospital.
He was a member of Pekin Bible Church.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Chad Nightingale will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
