Phyllis J. McCabe

PEKIN ~ Phyllis Jeanne McCabe, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 3:31 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at Unity Point Health-Methodist in Peoria.

Born November 18, 1929 in Pekin to Roy and Louise (Gilson) Schmidt, she married Walter McCabe on May 8, 1949 in Pekin.  He survives and was blessed to have celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two sons, Kevin (Tammy) McCabe and Michael (Susan) McCabe, both of Pekin; three grandchildren, Jessy (Tiffany) McCabe of Springfield, Nicole (Sean) Crombie of Ellisville and Collin McCabe of Pekin; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn and a nanny to many, including Emma and Kaitlyn Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Scott Schmidt

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she served as a youth leader and on the Altar Guild for many years.  She had also served on the Memorial Committee of the church.

She was a charter member and past president of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club; a member of the Pekin Y.W.C.A. and former member of King’s Daughter.

A homemaker, Phyllis had worked for Corn Products Corporation in the payroll department for 8 years. She had also worked for Pekin Insurance.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Phyllis enjoyed her flower garden, reading and dancing.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin.  The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Additional visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning at the church.  Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Unity Point Health-Methodist Hospice, 221 NE Glen Oak Ave., Peoria, IL 61636 or to Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554.
