Jess F. Glidewell

PEKIN ~ Jesse F. “Jess” Glidewell, 78, of Pekin, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at his home.
Born January 8, 1940 in Philippi, TN to Rev. Harry Orval and Ruby May (Ellis) Glidewell, he married Rosemary Glover on October 3, 1964 in Benton. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jay (Penny) Glidewell and Steven (Tina) Glidewell, both of Pekin; one daughter, Jessica (Bret) Helm of Davidson, NC; eleven grandchildren, Jordan Wilson, Ashlynn Magee, Brennan Glidewell, Conner Glidewell, Trey Glidewell, Shelby Helm, Carla Helm, Robert Helm, Alec Shehorn, Emily Shehorn and Ryan Shehorn; two sisters, Jean Heberer of Pekin, Susie (David) Stiles of Mapleton; one brother, Rev. Bill (Treva) Glidewell of Melbourne, FL and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special buddy, Sister Sarah, his mini pincher.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an adopted daughter, Michelle Wall, whom he helped raise.
A 1959 graduate of Streator Township High School, Jess worked 30 years at Caterpillar, Inc. as a Millwright, retiring in 1995 from the Mossville facility. In retirement, Jess owned and operated a lawn care service for 16 years. He also did small engine repair and was known as a shade tree car mechanic.
Jess was a committed follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful attender at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene, where he was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and a Primetime member. He formerly attended Pekin First Church of God and was one of the carpenters when the church on Maywood Avenue was built. Jess also had played church league softball.
He was an avid fisherman, his favorite place to fish was at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee. He also was a former stock car driver and fan of NASCAR. Family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. W. Lloyd Brock and Rev. H. Gerald Rudd will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
