Daniel W. Dawe, Sr.

TOPEKA ~ Daniel William Dawe, Sr., 67, of Topeka, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
 
He was born January 17, 1951 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to J. Darrell and Donna Ann (Kirstein) Dawe.  His parents and one son, Joshua Michael Dawe preceded him in death.
 
Surviving are one daughter, Julie Dawe of Pekin; one son, Daniel W. Dawe, Jr. of Pekin; four grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Dawe of Locust Grove, Virginia, Marjorie Dawe of Indianapolis, Indiana and Jackellyn Kirstein of Boulder, Colorado; two brothers, Tom (Sue) Kirstein of Germantown, Tennessee and Joe (Karen) Kirstein of Lexington, South Carolina; and his step-father, Ronald Kirstein of Lexington, South Carolina.
 
Dan graduated from Pekin Community High School.
 
He later served a four year apprenticeship prior to his employment with the Boilermakers Local #60 in Morton.  He worked there for many years, retiring in 2017.
 
Dan participated in martial arts, and attained a fourth degree black belt.
 
He was a true outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, camping and hiking.  He also enjoyed riding his horses and had many adventures riding with his children.  He enjoyed travelling and saw many parts of the country on his trips.   More than anything, he loved his kids, his grandkids and of course, his fur babies.
 
The family will host a celebration of Dan's life from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Pekin VFW. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory assisted the family with cremation arrangements.
