Edward Zielinski, Jr.

PEKIN ~ Edward Zielinski, Jr., 88, of Pekin, passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Pekin.

Born August 30, 1930 in Pekin to Edward, Sr. and Antoinette (Waremburg) Zielinski, he married Shirley Ann Tyler in August of 1951 in Roswell, NM.  She died February 21, 2017.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Zielinski; and one sister, Bernice Fornoff.

Surviving are one son, Steven (Cheryl) Zielinski of Pekin; two daughters, Cindy Evans of Pekin and Jackie Zielinski of Germantown, TN; six grandchildren, Sarah Gilmore, Amanda (Ryan) Rutledge, Jason Davis, Stephanie Evans, Calvin Sadler, and Isaac Werner; and three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Bella, and Lucy.

A United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he served as a Military Police Officer.

Ed worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 46 years, retiring in 1991 as a maintenance welder at the Mapleton Foundry.  He also had worked for Rinkenberger’s in Morton as a welder.

He was a life member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1869 and was a former member of Pekin Moose Family Center #916, both in Pekin.

Ed enjoyed fishing.  He will be remembered for being friendly, outgoing, a hard worker, and always helping others out with their projects.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  The Rev. Lauren Padgett will officiate.  Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
