PEKIN ~ Harley Eugene Simpkins, 84, of Mesa, Arizona passed away at 1:58 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Eden Adult Care Facility in Mesa. He was formerly of Pekin.
Born March 5, 1934 in McClure, Illinois to Eddie and Crissie (Parrish) Simpkins, he married Shirley J. Look on October 3, 1954 in Manito. She died April 11, 2002 in Pekin. He later married Charlotte Ruth Ward on August 29, 2003 in Washington. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Brad (Jan) Simpkins of Pekin; two daughters, Debra Selby of Peoria and Melissa Rainsford of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Stacey (Kurt) Glesne and Gina (Jeffery) Perry, both of Pekin, Christina and Jessica Rainsford, both of Phoenix, Arizona and Danielle Armstrong of Marquette Heights; five great-grandchildren, Elle, Vivian, Eva, Gianna and Alania and one sister, Shirley Bennett of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Jeremy Selby and siblings, Zelta Hielman, Linnie, Albert, Norman and Clifford Simpkins.
Harley was a member of Operating Engineer’s Local 649 in Peoria working as a heavy equipment operator for R.A. Cullinan & Son Inc. and finishing his career in Arizona.
He was a former member of the Pekin Jaycees.
A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Harley enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Steve Hardin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of the Valley, 1350 E. McKellips Road, Suite 5, Mesa, Arizona 85203.
