Mary A. Coers

HARTSBURG ~ Mary Arlene (Lynch) Coers, 87, of Hartsburg, passed away at 4 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Hopedale Nursing Home.

Born May 8, 1931 in Quincy to George Ray and Mabel (Rhodus) Lynch, she married Ralph F. Coers on August 3, 1947 in Emden.  He died September 5, 1985 in Hartsburg.  Also preceding her in death are her parents; one son, Robert Coers; one grandson, Ralph W. Coers; two sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph A. Coers of Lincoln and Richard (Shirley) Coers of Peoria; five grandchildren, Michele Williams, Amanda Mizik, Jeremy Coers, Nichole Folkman, Robert Christopher Coers; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Patricia Lucas of Quincy.

Mary and her husband Ralph farmed together and were members of the Logan County Farm Bureau.

A homemaker and retired farmer, Mary was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables, she enjoyed cooking, baking and the beauty of nature.  Mary’s grandchildren meant everything to her and there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden where a celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2018 with a fellowship immediately to follow at the church.  Pastor John Schurter will officiate.  Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m.  Burial of cremated remains will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery at a later date.  Cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Pre-School, 120 Market Street, Emden, IL 62635 or to Hartsburg-Emden Jr-Sr High School English or Music Departments, 400 W. Front Street, Hartsburg, IL 62643 or to Emden Historical Society, 429 Olive Street, Emden, IL 62635.
