Mary A. McIntyre

PEKIN ~ Mary A. McIntyre, 97, of Pekin, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Pekin.
Born June 14, 1921 in Pekin to George and Mary (Woodworth) Westrope, she married Walter B. Miller on June 28, 1947 in Pekin. He died December 30, 1992 in Pekin. She later married Samuel Guston “Gus” McIntyre, IV on December 13, 1997 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sue (Denny) Crowell of Pekin, Christie (James) Steckelberg of Rochester, Minnesota and Gail (Bryan) Whitton of Pekin; one step-son, Brian (Becky) McIntyre of Pekin; one step-daughter, Elaine McIntyre of Pekin; nine grandchildren, Seth Crowell, Erin Jordan, Samantha Dawson, Christopher Miller, Chelsea Weinstein, Rachel Steckelberg, Kathryn Handlogten, Kelly Whitton and Brent Whitton; three step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Osteen, Katherine McIntyre and Gwendolyn McIntyre; eight great-grandchildren and one brother, George Westrope of Livermore, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jon Brent Miller on September 5, 2014 in Peoria; three brothers and one sister.
Mary was a 1939 graduate of Pekin Community High School.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Pekin since 1934, Mary served her church as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent of the toddler department and as a former leader of the Pioneer Girls. She also had been a member of the Maranatha Sunday school Class and was a secretary at the church for more than 20 years.
She previously had worked at Keystone Steel & Wire Company in Bartonville right out of high school. She also previously worked for the Department of Agriculture.
Mary enjoyed sewing, cooking and taking many trips with the Roadrunner’s group with her church.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Vernon Risner will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
