Dennis J. Bengert

PEKIN ~ Dennis Joseph Bengert, 41, of Pekin, passed away at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at his home.

Born March 4, 1977 in Iowa City, Iowa to Dennis Dean and Faith (Durbin) Drapeaux, he married Marci Lynn Hostetter on June 12, 2010 in Elmwood.  She survives.

Also surviving are his mother and stepfather, Faith (David) Purdue of Tallahassee, Florida; three children, Shelbie Faith Marie Bengert, Austyn Joseph James Bengert and Logan Scott Taylor.  He also leaves numerous brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, one infant sister and his mother-in-law, Debbie Lawrence.

Dennis had served in the United States Army and was a 1996 graduate of Washington Community High School.  He also had attended Illinois Central College.

He last worked as a chemical operator for EVONIK in Mapleton.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and target shooting.  He also enjoyed working concessions at the high school games through the church.

His celebration of life memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at City Church in Pekin.  Pastor Shane Hawkins will officiate.  Private inurnment will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to City Church, located at 335 Sabella St. in Pekin, to continue the growth of the church he called home and enjoyed volunteering at the last several years.
