Jane L. Whelan

WASHINGTON ~ Jane Louise Whelan, 88, of Washington, passed away at 9:56 a.m. Tuesday, May 07, 2019 at Apostolic Christian Home in Roanoke.
Born April 16, 1931 in Lovington to David and Anna Mae (Cochran) Gould, she married Donald J. Whelan on April 21, 1951 in East Peoria.  He preceded her in death on January 20, 2008 in Canton.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Whelan; and two sisters, Judy Bach and Jeann Arnold.
Surviving are her seven children; one brother, James (Karin) Gould of Creve Coeur; eight grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Jane was of the Catholic faith.
She was a 1949 graduate of East Peoria High School and went on to earn her R.N. degree in 1952 from the St. Francis OSF College of Nursing in Peoria. She enjoyed working in the Newborn Nursery at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for twenty-five years, retiring in 1995.  
Jane cherished her children and enjoyed being a Mom.   She loved the beach and enjoyed reading, gardening and was faithful in her prayers for others.
Cremation rites will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.  Private burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
