Steven C. Strubhar

PEKIN ~ Steven Craig Strubhar, 65, of Pekin, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Born October 8, 1953 in Ohio to Roland Keith and Jacqueline Jean (Albee) Strubhar, he married Darrah Thompson on November 16, 1974 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. She survives.

Steven is survived by his three children, Craig (Jennifer) Strubhar of Pekin, Aimee (Caesar) Shanine of Peoria and Ashley (Brandon) Duff of Chicago; four grandchildren, Ashlyn 15, Beckett 6, both of Pekin, Willow 3, and Jonah 4 months, both of Peoria; one sister, Teri Strubhar Breeden of Normagee TX, and one Aunt, Judi (Jerry) Fleschner of Chesterfield, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Scott Strubhar and four beloved dogs, Bismark, Lady, Cosmo, and Licky.

He worked for 43 years at Caterpillar, Inc. retiring in 2015. He had first worked in the factory as a machinist and worked his way up as a purchaser when he retired.  He also owned and operated Illini Bow and Hunting Supplies in Pekin.  After retirement he worked at the Bass Pro Shops in East Peoria in the archery Department.

Steven was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, Harley advocate, and Chicago Bears fan. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren teasing them any chance he could. 

He had a passion for animals and adopted his last Dachshund from TAPS.  He had also helped with the Boy Scouts for many years when they would need help with archery lessons.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Pastor Steve Weber will officiate.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to funeral, Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
