Shirley J. Juchems

PEKIN ~ Shirley J. Juchems, 86, of Pekin, passed away at 6:13 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born October 25, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Herman and Ruby (Keen) Tolbert, she married Roland H. Juchems on August 27, 1956 in Shawneetown. He died September 18, 1999 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Tolbert and one sister, Barb Parshall.

Surviving are two sons, David A. (Merry) Juchems and Lee K. (Tracey) Juchems, both of Pekin; one daughter, Deborah S. “Debbie” Juchems of Pekin; six grandchildren, Jason (Tara) Juchems, Cole, Sarah, Jessica and Gabrielle Juchems and Ashley (Tyler)Basel; five great-grandchildren, with number six due in July.

She had worked for the Department of Employment Security as an Employment Representative Adjustor and Counselor for 35 years, retiring in 1991.

Shirley and her husband, Roland, had owned and operated the Youth Ranch on Broadway Road for many years, now known as the Champ of Champions USA.

She was a former member and past president of the Christian Woman’s Club in Pekin. Shirley also served as an officer with the Southside Mission Auxiliary in Peoria and volunteered for many years at the Peoria Rescue Mission. She also served as a Tazewell County Counselor of Social Agencies.

Shirley was an AWANA Club Leader at First Baptist Church in Pekin for nine years. She was a member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
