Shawn W. Paul

PEORIA ~ Shawn William Paul, 49, of Peoria, passed away at 8:12 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his home.

Shawn was born on October 23, 1969 in Peoria to Roger and Patricia Lou (Koepnick) Paul. 

Shawn is survived by one sister, Tammie (Douglas) Nowels of Harbor Springs, MI, along with several nieces, Molly (Steve) Wever of Scottville, MI,  Kendra (Aric) Descamps of Nashville, TN, Katie (Mark) Connolly of Petoskey, MI, Kimberlee (Sean) Cook of Petoskey, MI, nephews, Roger (Nicole) Paul of Ludington, MI and Kyle Nowels of Ann Arbor, MI, 8 great-nephews and 1 great-niece, along with his Uncle, William Koepnick of Pekin, MI and his daughter Vali Jo (Bill) Hansen and their two daughters.  He is also survived by several family members in Peoria, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Parrish and Jamie.

He lived in Chillicothe, IL for the first 6 years of his life.  His family then relocated to Branch, Michigan.  He graduated from Mason County Central High School in Scottville, MI.  He took continuing education courses at West Shore Community College.

Shawn was married to Michelle Sampsel from 2011 until 2016.  They were parents to three four-legged babies, whom Shawn adored.  He held an extra special place in his heart for his boy Tucker.

Shawn proudly served in the United States Navy during the Gulf War for 5 years.

He was of the Christian faith and Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior.  He was a member of The Redeemer's Special Church.

Shawn volunteered at the Hidden Manna Food Pantry in Peoria, IL, where his passion was serving others and he took great pride in doing so.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and nature. 

A celebration of Shawn’s life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
