Lillian M. Samms

PEKIN ~ Lillian M. Samms, 83, of Pekin, passed away at 5:03 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria.

Born March 25, 1936 in Vandalia to Henry Ernest and Mary Marie (Bolyard) Barbee, she married Robert Doyle Samms on November 14, 1953 in Pekin.  He died March 5, 2004 in Pekin.  Together they enjoyed 50 years of Christian marriage.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Dean Barbee and Johnnie Lee Barbee and three sisters, Ethel Lucille Hatfill, Gladys Marie Hatfill and Rosie Maxine Barbee.

Surviving are two sons, Robert (Barb) Samms and Michael (Joy) Samms, both of Pekin; two daughters, Teresa (Anthony) Bolding and Leta Samms, both of Pekin; six grandchildren, Chalise (Matt) Jones, Christopher (Sandra) Samms, Jennifer Samms, Sean (Ashley) Samms, Michelle (Ryan) Smith and Danielle (Trent Ball) Samms; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.  She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.

Lillian worked for the City of Pekin Bus Department as a bus monitor for special needs students.  She referred to them as “her kids” and loved her time spent with them.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.  She enjoyed spending time with her family most of all.  Lillian also was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and a life member of Pekin Women of the Moose Chapter 673.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Her funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Midwest Affiliate, 530 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL  61637.

The family very much appreciated the physicians and nursing staff in the ICU at Methodist for the wonderful care offered to Lillian during her last days here on earth.
